Debate next meeting
Debate Topic for Wed, 10-11: "Be it Resolved that the United Nations is not an effective peacekeeping force"
This issue will be debated Wednesday October 11 During Advisory Lunch in D103.
Main Speakers:
Proponency: Drew Lockhart
Opponency: Nathan Yaffe
If someone would like to be a subsequent speaker (not a main speaker) they can come prepared with information on the debate day. Also, if everyone, especially the speakers, could dress up a little bit, that would be great. To help with research, Hannah has provided some links that may be of use for your side. They are on the side bar over there --> >>Main Speaker for the Proponency will speak for 4 minutes.
Debate Procedure:
If the speaker does not speak for four minutes, he/she may yield the rest of the time for any questions the audience or other speaker may have.
He/she can also yield the time to the chair, meaning their remaining time goes unused. >>Main Speaker for the Opponency does the same thing. >>A Subsequent Speaker for the Proponency is then selected out of the audience (volunteer only).
Those with notes/research will get preference.
The Sub. Speaker has two minutes to speak, and extra time may be dealt with the same way as with the main speaker, or they may yield the time to another speaker. >>A Subsequent Speaker for the Opponency does the same thing (if there are any). >>The Main Speaker for the Opponency gives a two-mintue closing speech/rebuttle. >>The Main Speaker for the Proponency gives a two-minute closing
speech/rebuttle.
>>A Vote is taken on those for, against, and abstain.
